Robert's Story
Life
WOW!! Where do I begin, a lot has happened since 1982. Those who knew me knew all I wanted to do was race, well I started in go-karts, but the road to NASCAR took about 10 years. Started racing at Southside Speedway in 1993 and continued till 2001, when I was struck down by a near fatal disease. Recovery has been an ongoing process, that has put my life and dreams on hold, but those who know me, know I"m not a quitter. During recovery I was let go from my job of 20 years, tried to start my own business, but finally decided to give trucking a try....actually didn't have a lot of choices, my ongoing treatments made most companies very shy about putting me on there health plan....Thats the way the world works today... Right now hauling groceries to the Walmarts up and down the east coast....hell, it's a living!! Got real close to being married..."Twice"" But never pulled that off (I guees I'm smarter than I look..Haha) Funny, I hated school so much and twenty-some years later find myself wishing I could go back. Looking at those 4 yearbooks really brings things back.all the wishes and hopes we all had for life after CHHS. As you get older, you loose track of people, but I have never forgotten any of them. But a...Expand for more
t the same time, there are a few that I am still close to, after all these years, and those friends mean more to me than they will ever know...Sadley I hear stories of some of the tragic events that befallen some of my classmates, and my heart goes out to them as well. I never thought I'd say this, but we were all very lucky to be part of CHHS back then, it had the best teachers and enviroment of any schools around. My regrets are many, I wish I had been a better student back then, I wish I could have been a better freind to some, and figured out a way to have gotten along with those I differed with. I remember every High School crush I had, but regret being so shy, that those girls never knew how I felt. But the thing I am the most thankfull for, were those special teachers that helped me the most and stood by me through the most difficult times of my life....Mr. Ryan, Miss Woody, Mr. Horne, Mr Yates and Ms. Henderson, without those special people by my side, I would have never made it out there, and for that I will always be thankfull. And to all my former classmates, I hope for continued succsess to those were able to find it, and I hope those of us who are still looking for it will find it as well.........
